Vision Statement
Boomers Collaborative Foundation (BCF) is an Austin-based nonprofit providing cooperative housing to seniors and collaboration space to entrepreneurs of any age. We have aligned facility space and services to suit the special needs of ‘elder orphans’ single adults, aged 55 and older, with little or no supportive family or children. We do this so economically fragile seniors can continue to contribute and stave off dependency on public services through the sharing of resources. We create the space and conditions so they can collaborate to co-live, co-create, and thrive in retirement.
Under our easily replicated model, member beneficiaries live in a 55 and older housing cooperative and intergenerationally collaborate in shared commerce tailored to local conditions and membership needs. They share housing, studio / work space, storefront bistro / coffee shop, oversized commercial kitchen, retail gallery, event space, mass transit, and fleet transportation options—everything needed to promote well-being for a fulfilling, healthy, and sustainable urban retirement.
Mission Statement
We advocate for mixed-use shared-equity housing for seniors within urban Equitable Transit-Oriented Developments (ETODs). We inform the public about the limited-equity cooperative housing model—its benefits to seniors and value to society—and how it addresses the affordable housing, urban mobility, social isolation, and ongoing economic opportunity needs of the many seniors at-risk of outliving their savings. We actively pursue the development of and participation in a demonstration project.
